HEALTH AND SAFETY CHANGES

We are all aware of the changes and implications for you on the farm, in your workshops and businesses with the many Health and Safety practices that are currently being reviewed in our industry. SFML recognises these changes and as a company that operates both on your farm and in a workshop environment, we have multiple obligations to you as clients and to our workshop to ensure that every day, everyone goes home safe from work.

With our On-Site Field Technician services we are currently evaluating how best to become compliant with your Health and Safety requirements on farm. Don’t be surprised if this means that our technicians when visiting your business ask to sign in as contractors on site and to see your Health and Safety policy before commencing a job. We are also working on training our technicians to inform you if they sight any hazards on farm that you may not be aware of, a requirement of any contractor.

Back in our four workshops we will be making continual improvements to our safety procedures to ensure the safety of the SFML team and clients. At the end of the day this will now mean that if you enter the workshop area you will be required to sign in, wear blaze and be escorted to the area of interest to you. Children under any circumstances, will not be allowed into the workshop due to the serious hazards that exist, many of which could crush or seriously hurt those individuals.

If it all sounds a bit too much to quick, I have to admit it sounds like that for me too. However everyone is aware that when the new legislation is approved in the current financial year, there will be no excuses to ignore poor Health and Safety practices. Should we choose to continue to ignore the importance of Health and Safety in the workplace sizable fines for both you and I in our business will be imposed.

For Southland Farm Machinery the changes will be on going and flexible. Plans will need to be adapted as this is a learning process for our team.

If you have any questions with respect to your own Health and Safety on farm or processes put in place by our team then please don’t hesitate to ask your favourite SFML contact so that we can talk through the issues.
